Day 5 (26.07.06)

Gjerrild - Grenå - Ebeltoft

69.49 km or 43.15 miles

From Gjerrild we biked round to Grenå where we stopped for some yummy chocolate pancakes and visited a bike shop where we got a replacement screw for Jamie’s bike seat. From there we made our way down towards Ebeltoft. Having stopped for a late lunch at a fairly uninspiring town called Balle, we continued to bike southwards, (well, by this stage it was getting a bit more hilly, so Laura was pushing her bike up the steeper hills,) but had to stop about 5km later, when Laura’s bike chain got jammed between the wheel and the cog while she was changing gear. After lots of tugging, brute force and ignorance on Laura’s part, Jamie – the master mechanic – stepped in and managed to fix it using his Leatherman, and we were off again! We actually arrived at the camp site in quite good time, and enjoyed a delicious supper with Mum and Charlotte in a lovely restaurant in Ebeltoft.

About Azafady »

Azafady is a registered UK charity and Malagasy NGO, which works in southeast Madagascar with local communities on nature conservation, health and education.

About Madagascar »

Madagascar is the world's fourth largest island. It has an absolutely staggering diversity of plant and animal species, 80% of which are found nowhere else on the planet. However, while one of the biologically richest places on Earth; it is also one of the world’s poorest countries. The country typically spends as much on debt repayments each year as it does on health and education combined.
